Y3 oracy presentation 14/2/18

Y3, you have chosen your organ to research and in class you started your J2e document which will be your slideshow.

This week and over the holidays you need to find information and prepare some props to show your audience. Finish your slideshow, this may just be 2 pages on J2e but you can show off your ICT skills.

Look at the last post on our blog about this project. On the second page is the success criteria you came up with as a class, this will help you to try and include everything you need.

If some of you are ready first week back after the holidays, you will have the opportunity to present straight away and get it over and done with!!! If not they will begin second week back and everyone will present in that week.

Reception – Bug Club online

This week was Internet Safety week and as part of that we have been learning about the internet in Reception. Just as the children would never go anywhere (Spar, the park, Folly Farm, the cinema etc) without a trusted adult, so, we have told them, they should never go anywhere on the internet without an adult beside them to keep them safe. As a first step towards this we are very excited to tell you about Bug Club online. As a class we have looked at how we get to Bug Club online (comparing the process to a Sat Nav) and then what to do when we get there.

They have learned the importance of never telling anyone except their parents or trusted adults their password as this keeps everything that belongs to them safe. We have been giving the children the opportunity to access one of their Bug Club books online, and read it with us, activating the little ‘bugs’ on the way and thereby earning rewards. We have also shown them how to log out, and the importance of doing this, comparing it to locking the door when we leave the house to keep all our belongings safe.

All the children who were in school yesterday should have come home with a laminated bookmark showing their username, password and school code, to enable them, with you beside them, to log in to their own Bug Club account. Please keep this bookmark safe so that you can log in when you want to, to read a book online. This does not take the place of reading books in the traditional way, but is an exciting way to enhance children’s enjoyment in learning to read. It also gives them further opportunities to build on the work we do in school with comprehension skills. Books can be reread as many times as you and your child wish, helping them to gain confidence in word recognition.

If any of you have concerns or questions about Bug Club online, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to help you with them

Happy reading!
