Year One Easter Holiday Oracy Project

This term children have been studying animals and their lifecycles through our Spring topic, ‘The Circle of Life’. Through the Easter holidays, I would like you to prepare a three minute presentation about your favourite animal. This might be a house pet or a wild animal, the choice is up to you! Children can prepare a poster, presentation box, scrap book etc. to support their presentation. You can describe the animal’s lifecycle, appearance, diet and habitat. This is an oracy and listening project and will assess pupils on the foundation phase oracy outcomes. Children can prepare small chunks of writing on cards to help them with their projects. However, as this is an oracy project pupils can not read to the class. The foundation phase outcomes children will be assessed on are:

* To listen to other speakers, with growing attention, usually responding appropriately to complex information and instructions. To ask detailed questions to clarify understanding.

* To use an increasing and varied range of appropriate vocabulary. Usually making themselves clear by choosing words deliberately and organising what they say.

* To talk to and respond to others during shared activities. Extend ideas or accounts on familiar topics by including some detail, expresses opinions and explains processes, showing awareness of the needs of listeners.

* To speak clearly and audibly, conveying meaning to a range of listeners.

Pupils also have addition and subtraction problems to practise in their homework books. Pupils are encouraged to read over the Easter break and access their books using bugclub online. Year One do not have spelling words to practise over the Easter break. New spelling challenges will be handed out during the first week back. Have a fantastic Easter break.

Thankyou,

Mr Sandles
