Spelling Homework 4 October 17
Year 3 will be given spelling words to practise at home. Each pupil has been given High Frequency words but sometimes they may have other spelling words too.
Each week I will send some strategies home to help them remember to spell the words.
I have included a ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ sheet and another strategy (Colourful Words).
They can practise words on the next available page in their homework books.
We will regularly test them on these High Frequency words to see how they are progressing and to decide whether we should send more home.
Strategy of the Week – Colourful Spelling Words
Write each of your spelling words. Write each letter using a different coloured pencil or pen.
Look and say | Look, say and write | Cover and write | Check and write again |

P.E. – Tuesday indoor and Friday outdoor. Please can pupils bring kit in a bag so they can change back into their uniform after the session as it is part of the curriculum that they need to be aware of personal hygiene.
Homework : Spelling / Literacy / Numeracy – Homework books to be given out on a Thursday and handed back in on a Tuesday. Remember that there is homework club on a Thursday should your child wish to attend.
Bug club books to be returned once they are read at home and they will be changed by the pupils through the week and we encourage parents and pupils to record in the red home link books. There are also book reviews in the back and times table pages where you and child can work on times table targets. Pupils will develop their reading skills and be listened to in class through individual, shared and guided reading sessions.
Year 3 will visit the library and choose a free choice book to read at home, this can also be recorded in the red home link book.
All pupils will have HWB log ins that we will send home and everyone will have log ins for active learn to access the Bug club books online. Again we encourage pupils and parents to use Bug Club online at home to develop reading and comprehension skills. We can monitor pupils’ progress through the questions asked online then assign books of appropriate level to each child.
The Class blog will be updated regularly with homework, information and photos of our learning.
Juniors use Class Dojo to reward points in class but not as a tool to communicate with parents. We will communicate through Twitter, Texts and the Class Blog. If you have any questions please see us before or after school when convenient.
Headphones – pupils are welcome to bring into school inexpensive headphones should they wish to do so as it will allow them to use the iPads with sound. This is not compulsory.
Year 3 and 4 will be getting together at Christmas time for a class production.
We need help during the year to carry out activities so if you or a family member have a skill or some time that could be spared, please let us know.

The time game!
As promised, I have posted the link for the maths time game. You will only be able to play this on a laptop or computer as it requires flash.
If you have time try and use time by wearing a watch. If you haven’t got a watch ask your parents to test you on both analogue (round clock face with hands) and digital clocks around your home.
You need to work up to telling the time at 5 minute intervals – __ o’clock, five minutes past ___, 10 minutes past __, quarter past ___, twenty minutes past ___, twenty five minutes past ___, half past ___, twenty five minutes to ___, twenty minutes to __, quarter to __, ten minutes to ___, five minutes to ___.
Remember that by using these skills often it will make it much easier for you.
